Special Session II
As we start another constitutionally required special session, we are now several months into emergency special powers for the governor.
We have a proposal that would authorize the needed flexibility for the administration to address COVID-19 related issues, and return to normal legislative processes. That is why the special session was required to be called for today.
We need to find solutions that work, and just don’t sound good. We need solutions that work across the state or allow local options. This includes school opening/operation, law enforcement policies, housing, and other issues that come before us this special session.
I’m optimistic that we can find agreement on law enforcement procedures. However, this should not prevent local cities/departments, such as Minneapolis, from adopting policies they feel will increase public safety and security.
I spoke a bit this weekend with KAAL-TV about what to expect during this second special session.
